Hi all,

Just when I want to start blogging again things are changed! This time I’m not even in MSN Spaces. Just leaving a note if any of my “old” blogging friends find me. Crazy Weather!

Crazy weather we are having. Two days ago it was very late spring like. The air was unseasonably warm, all but a rare patch of snow was to be found. People were Barbequing and those not at work were out walking and enjoying the day. I had to look at the calendar to know what month it was! It felt more like mid April. I took the opportunity to get some unusual pictures, for late January, around the yard.

That same night it began with flurries, than by morning it was really heavy and by the afternoon the wind had picked up. It snowed and blew it around all day and into the night. By yesterday afternoon the wind had died down and after another round of scooping the snow drifts off the deck I got out the camera again and took the “after” pictures. What a difference two days can make!

No new news. The kids are moved in their own home as I said in last blog. Two more weeks of work at the store and I’ll have a week mid-winter holiday. Not going anywhere, just thought by mid February I’d get the "blahs" and not want to go/do anything so picked that date. Hopefully though I’ll get the inclination to finish painting the kitchen I started almost a year ago if not maybe a year!

Well so much for regular blogging L Oh well “I’m here” but of course it’s not spring/summer like the picture above though the winter so far (knock on wood) has been reasonably mild and dry. We got rain whereas the States and other parts of Canada got lots of snow and bitter cold weather. That doesn’t say we won’t be “hit” come February or March!

I have resumed taking Sign Language classes for the winter months. This is the third winter, by now I thought I’d be able to “talk” sign but without practice with someone or reviewing through the year it didn’t happen. Though I am surprised at what I did retain. Reading finger spelling is my down fall. I can finger spell, though slowly, I just can’t seem to catch on reading someone else. I always think of Millie when I take classes as she was so kind and thoughtful to send some of her books from when she taught sign. Thanks Millie!

I am still trying to get the house and dungeon (alias basement) de-cluttered) I’ve joined “Freecycle” but so far only was able to part with one game. I got a new wood file cabinet for Christmas so posted the old metal one. Two people responded but couldn’t get out east were I live and wondered if I could deliver it to “town” but that couldn’t happen, so I guess it’s bound to be recycled with the metal pick-up on “blue bag” day. Yesterday I did go through shelves of books in the basement and got a box of magazines and a good size pile of books to get rid of. Just have to check out our waste watch site to find what goes into a bluebag and what is trash. Another sea glass collector came by and unburdened me of all my many jars of sea glass except some favourite pieces. She is one of the organizers of our Sea Glass Festival. Some she will use, some for a craft that she will teach next year at Community School and the remaining will be for “planting” at the Sea Glass Festival for the children’s scavenging hunt in the summer. I took some of my sea glass to this same woman before Christmas to make four sets of pendants/earrings for a friend, my daughters and daughter-in-law for Christmas presents. Pink for Megan, yellow for Krista, mauve for Adina and grey for my friend. I think they appreciated that it was from my own sea glass I had gathered on local beaches.

The biggest news in our family is our son and DIL buying there first home. It’s on the other side of Ch’town but it is on the Island. Next weekend we will be helping them move in. They will need lots of stuff as it’s a four bedroom home.

Is there such a thing as a “normal” week?

Wow! Two weeks in a row I am blogging. Go me!

It was a busy week at work, a bit stressful, but still enjoy working at the store. As I said last week, Mr. & Mrs. Boss went to a trade show in Calgary. I got by grinding the hamburger with out any injuries. Kept the meat and produce coolers looking presentable.

A couple glitches in our plans though.

1) If I ran out of anything from Tuesday’s order I could always order from our other supplier on Thursday. This didn’t happen. Mr. Boss knew before he left that this this company would be closing down in the next couple weeks but all of a sudden I found out it was closing Saturday and our sales rep called and told me there wasn’t much sense in ordering as it was all but cleared out. Our store is “Clover Farm” a low rung on the big corporation of “Sobeys“.

2) Mrs. Boss had the schedule for the week to make sure I had lots of help for the freight order to come in this coming Tuesday. I was informed by the truck driver that because Wednesday is Remembrance Day the all the delivery days would change. Ours is coming tomorrow. So that leaves me with one clerk who’ll be mostly on cash. So "Moi" will be left to put away most of the order. Only it wouldn’t hurt to be left ‘til Tuesday if I can’t get it done on Monday. I will also be busy with doing up the new produce and grinding fresh burger etc. that will arrive with Monday’s order. Also I usually send my order on Monday for Tuesday delivery but had to do it Friday, guessing how much will sell over the weekend, especially the cigarettes. Oh well all will turn out when the real bosses come back on Tuesday and I will resume my role as grocery manager only and let Mr. Boss look after the meat and produce end of it. Thanks to the hardware man, Howard, who came to my side as butcher to cut up roasts & steaks. Mr. Boss I guess thought leaving me alone with a big bad grinder was enough without putting a great big sharp knife in my hands lol.

Though I made it through the week at the store without injury not so cleaning my dad’s house on Wednesday afternoon. His cat, Patch, is a one person cat, Dad, but over the year she has been slowly letting me give her an occasional pat. Wednesday when I went to pat her she made a swipe at me, (she’s declawed) so when she does this I just put my hand palm down in front of her and she would smell it and that would be that. Not so this week. Without warning she grabbed my hand with her mouth and bit in with all her teeth as hard as she could. Boy did that hurt! My hand immediately swelled up I thought it was going to burst. That evening it was still swollen, red and bruised. Paul thought I should see the doctor but I figured what could he do but tell me to put on cold compresses (which I did at home) and ask about a tetanus shot (you can only get it every 5 years) which I figured I had about 4 years ago after infection from stabbing myself in the foot with a hundred year old pitch fork Paul’s grandfather used on the pig farm and I used for compost. Even Thursday night it was still inflamed and a bit swollen but today, though tender to touch is back to normal.

Other than that it’s been a normal week. (what’s “normal” anyway?) Cleaned house yesterday and raked up 3 bags of leaves from the flower beds in the afternoon and two before church this am. We have “Island Waste Watch” this includes blue bag pick-up once a month, black bin (trash), and green bin (compost) every alternate week. Twice a year are big clean ups: fall and spring with Metal, Compost & Trash pick ups over a three week period. This coming week is compost. Leaves have to be in large paper recycling bags. Don’t know which day they will be in our area but at least I have a quite a bit done. A couple more beds and then all the needles around the trees if I have time, the weather’s good and I’m not to tired after work.

Well Bible Study at seven and Desperate Housewives at 10 so I guess I’ll post this and have an afternoon nap before supper. What’s for supper? Good question, I’ll surprise Paul & I the last minute LOL

Extra Hour Sleep?

I don’t really understand why when we change our clocks back that it is said we get an extra hours sleep. I have no problem falling asleep it’s staying asleep after I have my early morning bathroom run. Yesterday, a Saturday, I forced myself to stay in bed ’til 5:30. Now this morning with the time change I tossed and turned ’til 4:30 and was so bored and restless I just got up and dressed. So after being awake for and hour it is still only 5:30. I mean this is a Sunday, lay iin bed until til I have to ready for an 11am church service! Sheesh!

On a positive note I finally have the time to blog and let all my dear friends in blog land know I am still here and alive. Working full time has really put a damper on my blogging time hasn’t it? This week as Mr & Mrs Boss are gone to a trade show in Calgary I plan to put in a couple hours extra here and there at the store doing some extra work. Mr. Boss has delegated me to grind up hamburger and keep an eye out on the produce and meat. He knows I’m clumsy but I told him I’m may be clumsy but not stupid and will definitely not stick my hand in the grinder!

I told Mr. Boss about having a blogging buddy in Calgary I would love to visit if I was with them. He and Howard the hardware man at the store seem concerned that Curtis may not be who he said he is etc. etc. I said, "yeah, maybe he is a nineteen year old who is trying after a 55 year old woman…lol! Then Mr Boss asked to a have a special blogging name I go by. I felt silly when I told them yes, "flyladyfaye". It just seemed strange telling them about my "other life".

For those of you who followed my last blog…I went to town for one day and when I got home it was stiff with it’s feet in the air. I felt really bad but also relieved, it was too much work and responsibility.

Ayla was bad again.

I was in the yard and a robin came swooping down all excited then took off to the big tree in the corner of our yard. First I thought an eagle was upsetting the neighbour hood birds then I thought…Ayla!…so I ran to the tree thinking she was up the tree, but the robin still chirping wildly darted back to the deck. Then I heard an answering cry under the deck. I struggled to get my "child bearing hips" through an opening all the while yelling at Ayla. Finally I found her with a baby robin behind a supporting beam. Will lots of yelling at her I was able to secure the baby robing and get it and me out from under the deck. The mother was still calling frantically to it’s young. First I climbed chair and put the baby on the roof of the building, still the mother never came for him/her. Then I put it in the "Y" of an apple tree. It just stayed there with the mother flying between trees.

Finally I gave up and took possession of the bird and realized it had a broken wing. To make this story shorter, now I have the responsibility of being "mother" to a baby Robin. I started by feeding it oatmeal softened with water from a baby spoon. After the first night when I realized it was going to live I gave it a name, suitably calling it Billie after Hurricane Bill that was underway, and "Billie" because not knowing it’s gender gave it a more uni-sex name. I googled what to feed baby robins which were worms of course and fruit like strawberries & blueberries.

Did you know they eat every 20 minutes to 1/2 hour?!! Billie has attached itself to me and now even "chirps" when it’s hungry and last night I discover it will also chirp and call me just for company! So this morning after the storm has passed with out any power outages or major damage I was out in the drizzle digging up "breakfast" (and lunch and dinner and all the feedings in between) gathering up worms in the garden. We’ve accomplished the knack of feedings. At first I was nervous and thought Billie would nip my fingers. We had an awful mess of strawberries all over the cage (Alya’s cat cage for vet trips) Billie looked terrible all red and sticky with strawberry juice and I also got some thrown on me. Now I’ve got it down pat and know how to stick fingers and food down Billie’s throat and he/she gobbles it up. I can even pick it up, just put my hand up to his belly and he will hope right on my fingers. I think I am stuck for a long haul. Billie is still a baby with a broken wing.

Haven’t figured out what to do if the wing doesn’t mend or how to "teach" it to fend for it’s self. I began my first day of a week holiday (from the store only so I still work Monday & Friday mornings and Wednesday afternoon and my other part time jobs). So I’m heading out and must go feed Billie his second breakfast before heading out to work. Anybody do this before? (not work or vacation lol but look after a wild baby bird) Any & all advice would be appreciated! Have a great day.

Fun Birthday

Well another filled weekend is over….time for a rest and return to work

Straightened up the house on Saturday morning, planned to garden in the afternoon but plans changed. Megan had come out the night before so in the afternoon we played "tourist" in visited some craft shops in the two communities. She never got time to shop for my Birthday gift so we had fun looking for "it". It turned out to be a crafted necklace, a pair of starfish earrings and the tiniest pewter cat ornament I have. Just the two of us hanging out was fun.

Before church on Sunday Homer and I went sea glass hunting. Last year I went twice a day most days but with a fuller work schedule and one car this was just my fourth time all summer!

After church was the big weekend event for me. As other years, it was the Northumberland Fisheries Festival. This year the Poker Run, always on Sunday to finished up the festival, happened to fall on my birthday. Almost everyone who has a boat, or a friend/relative with a fishing boat looks forward to this event. I have pictures from previous years just some changes in the people on Freddie’s boat, some that were on last year weren’t this year and vise versa. Perfect weather accompanied us the whole afternoon. The best part is when all the boats congregate at an inlet just referred to around here as "Cahoon’s Wharf". Boats are anchored, ladders lowered and BBQs lite. Lots of swimming, laughter and eating. Only this year Paul brought my birthday cake. Of course there was no left over of this cake…Angel Food Cake with strawberries in the middle and some kind of delicious topping (all I know that there was whipped cream in it). It was nice to have all three of my children there and watch them in the water playing and horsing around like kids instead of mid twenties to thirty! Also present was Krista’s BF Chris and our daughter in law, Adina alone with some other family members and our friends from NH and some of their family.

To top it off, Chris inserted more RAM into my computer and now it just takes seconds to move from window to window. Before it took about 3-5 mins to open another blog or else it couldn’t open at all! So a big thanks to Chris, my "personal" computer technician!

I kind of took a little holiday from blogging/blog-walking. Sorry for any concerns. I have even been sleeping in instead of getting up early before work to blog walk…well if you call 6:30 or 6:45 sleeping in lol!

Since my last blog I’ve been busy, when not working, mostly in the garden. Chad and Adina (& Lexi) arrived a few weeks ago and are staying with us until they move into their apartment the 1st of August. Busy with two dogs and one cat and four adults coming and going all the time. The girls were out a couple times so there have been late nights talking and playing board games.

Friday night and all day Saturday I was able to mingle with many other Sea Glass enthusiasts and our first annual Mermaid Tears Sea Glass Festival. Just a 25 minute drive from my home too!

Tonight we have our commissioning service for our new church, now named "Memorial United". This is similar to a "grand opening". Many former ministers will be there so it will be nice to meet them after many years.

No guarantee, but I’ll try to devote a bit more time here and visit all my dear blog friends I’ve neglected over the summer. Hope everyone is well and also enjoying there summer, rain or shine!
